People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them.
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possessed. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Don't put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they? Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety. Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe. Blessed is the person who trusts in the LORD, making the LORD his trust.
