To know

With knowledge, you may live. For with knowledge of the law we become conscious of sin. Men die for the lack of knowledge. We avoid sinning consciously knowing it is wrong.

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20

What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet."
