“Foolishness to the Godless” — A Solemn Warning

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18

To the godless mind, Christ is foolishness.
To the unregenerate heart, the cross is absurd.
To those who walk by sight and pride, truth sounds like madness.

But Scripture does not call Christ foolish.
Scripture calls the rejecter the fool.

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1)

This is not intellectual ignorance—it is moral rebellion.
They do not lack evidence; they suppress truth.

“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them… but they did not like to retain God in their knowledge.” (Romans 1:19, 28)

The world laughs at holiness.
Mocks repentance.
Scoffs at obedience.

Yet it bows daily to sin, addiction, vanity, and death—calling that wisdom.

They say:

  • “Following Christ is weak.”

  • “Submission is slavery.”

  • “Faith is outdated.”

But hear the verdict of heaven:

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” (Romans 1:22)

The cross offends because it humiliates human pride.
It declares that man is not good enough, smart enough, or strong enough to save himself.

That is why Christ is mocked—
not because He lacks truth,
but because He demands surrender.

Jesus does not come to improve the old man.
He comes to crucify him.

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross.” (Luke 9:23)

To the godless, this is foolishness.
To the proud, it is unbearable.
To the perishing, it is a stumbling block.

But to those who are called—
Christ is the wisdom of God and the power of God.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” (Proverbs 9:10)

A warning, then, to all who mock:
You may laugh at Christ now,
but eternity will not laugh with you.

“God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)

The cross you call foolish
will be the standard by which you are judged.

Choose wisely.
